Innovative LIDAR System to Prevent Train Accidents by Arunachala College Students

Objective of the Project
The objective of this project is to develop an obstacle detection system using Light Detection and Ranging (LiDAR) Optical technology
LiDAR is a remote sensing technology that uses laser beams to measure distances and create precise three-dimensional maps
Using this technology, the train can be stopped automatically when there is an intrusion of any animal or obstacle on the railway track
How It Works
- LiDAR Sensor Placement: The LiDAR sensor is placed on the moving locomotive.
- Laser Pulse Emission: The emitted laser pulsed light wave from the LiDAR sensor hits the obstacle and bounces back.
- Signal Reception: The bounced signal is accessed by the acceptor in the LiDAR sensor.
- Signal Processing: The directed signal is augmented and directed towards STM32, allowing the sensor to pinpoint the blockade.
Responses to Detected Obstacles
- The obstacle can be alarmed by a horn sound.
- The speed of the locomotive can be gradually reduced and stopped.
